La Jacmel is the name for these one-of-a-kind cow skulls created by hand with paper mâché and painted with vibrant horns offset by the patterned skull. Like the well-dressed friend we all have that pushes the envelope with style, pulls it off with class, and gets compliments everywhere they go!
Handmade with love in Haiti ♥
La Jacmels are handmade in the Hatitan beach town of Jacmel (hence the name) by local artisan Pierre Edgar Satyr. Pierre partners with the Artisan Business Network in Haiti which seeks to “empower Haiti’s artisan culture to improve community wellbeing”. And looking at Pierre’s work, you would never guess what material he uses to create them: RECYCLED CEMENT BAGS! What an incredible real life example of creating beauty from ashes (Isaiah 61:3), by turning old cement bags into beautiful paper mâché art.

Our Kuni Spoon Set is made by artisans with Badala, an organization focused on the fight against human trafficking and working to provide women with pathways out of poverty through opportunity and education. Badala’s line of jewelry, accessories, and housewares was born out of the need for employment among victims of trafficking in order to support their children. Initially launching in Kenya, Badala has since expanded their work to reach women and artisans across East Africa, Central America, and domestic human trafficking survivors in the U.S.A.

By creating a safe and loving environment, we enable the women and girls to grow and develop physically, mentally, and spiritually. Rahab's Rope worked with a fair trade company also in India to develop this purse exclusively for supporting their mission.
